New Independent Expenditure Committee - United New Yorkers for Progress -Launches to Support Jenifer Rajkumar for NYC Public Advocate

New York, NY — A new independent expenditure committee, United New Yorkers for Progress, has officially launched to support Assemblywoman Jenifer Rajkumar’s campaign for New York City Public Advocate. The IE is already collecting strong support with a surge of initial contributions and commitments from New Yorkers who are ready for real leadership in an office that is being wasted by the incumbent.

“New York City needs a Public Advocate focused on the job of energetically speaking up - at all levels of government - for our diverse communities,” said veteran political consultant Michael Tobman, Director of United New Yorkers for Progress. “New Yorkers throughout the city know the incumbent isn’t doing that, and that Assemblywoman Rajkumar would do a better job for them.”

“Jenifer Rajkumar is running an insurgent campaign with a citywide vision and unmatched work ethic,” said Tobman. “Speaking with neighbors in all five boroughs, it’s clear voters are ready for a Public Advocate who shows up, takes action, and delivers results. United New Yorkers for Progress will ensure that every neighborhood hears about the Assemblywoman’s qualifications and accomplishments, and also the incumbent’s many shortcomings.”

Rajkumar, a civil rights lawyer and current State Assemblywoman, has emerged as a dynamic force in New York politics. Known for passing landmark legislation, hands-on leadership, organizing prowess - and for her signature red dresses - Rajkumar is everywhere in New York City, meeting constituents, and refusing to back down from the challenges facing everyday New Yorkers.

“The office of Public Advocate is what its holder makes of it. Assemblywoman Rajkumar will be the people’s lawyer, the people’s champion, the people’s organizer, and the people’s fighter against any person, institution or business trying to harm New York City,” concluded Tobman. “Can we say incumbent Jumaane Williams is doing the same?”

With United New Yorkers for Progress now in full operation, the tightening race for Public Advocate has officially entered a new phase.
